Home of the Singapore sling. It was common to see gentlemen sitting under the cast iron portico, nursing glasses of gin or whisky, while watching the procession of young ladies. As they would often join their tables, the idea for a long bar counter came about, an identity it continues to retain.

Hainanese bartender Ngiam Tong Boon created the Singapore Sling with a feminine flair of pink and clear alcohol which led people to think it was a socially acceptable drink for women, and it has been a hit every since.
